FAQ

  • Rocket Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school that specializes in advanced manufacturing. The school is housed at a state-of-the-art campus where students learn workforce development skills and hands-on technical skills. Authorized by Cedar Grove-Belgium School District, Rocket Academy provides options for students and families who are looking for an option to a traditional high school experience.

  • Rocket Academy is a public charter school so all may attend if seats are available. There is a lottery system when we have more interest than seats. The curriculum and learning program is designed for high school juniors and seniors. Rocket Academy has Open Enrollment which means students from outside of the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District can enroll in Rocket Academy. 

  • The short answer is yes. 

    If you live in the Cedar-Grove Belgium School District, you can play sports for the CGB Rockets. If you are joining Rocket Academy via open enrollment into the district and are not a school district resident, you can play sports for CGB however you can not compete at the varsity level for one calendar year after your first day of attendance.  You can compete at the JV level in year one and then varsity level in year two. 

  • Yes, Rocket Academy students can participate in the school lunch program. Students may bring their own lunch or, if they qualify, can enroll in the free and reduced lunch program. Lunch times vary, depending on the school schedule, Youth Apprenticeship placements, and other programming.

  • YA is a state-sponsored program that gives high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to explore their chosen career path in a 1:1 mentor relationship at a partner business. Apprentices are paid for their work hours, receive on-the-job training, and complete coursework related to their career interests. Rocket Academy requires that each student participate in YA and provides ample school time to meet the requirements.

  • Dual credit means that students earn high school and college credit simultaneously. This helps students make progress towards both their high school diploma and a future college degree. Taking dual credit courses at Rocket Academy can save time, save money, and can shorten a student’s path to a degree. Rocket Academy instructors are certified to teach college-level courses through Lakeshore College, using Lakeshore College curriculum.

  • Rocket Academy is staffed by industry experts and educators. Rocket Academy faculty have experience in advanced manufacturing and share a passion for encouraging youth to pursue a career in the field. Rocket Academy students have the best opportunity for learning classroom skills from experts in the field and workforce skills at the job placement. Advanced and highly specialized courses may be taught by Lakeshore College staff. 

  • Students take classes at the Rocket Academy campus, located at 255 Lakeview Drive, Belgium, WI 53004. The Rocket Academy campus is a state-of-the-art facility with cutting edge technology, machinery, and equipment. Students in specialized courses may also attend class at Lakeshore College in Cleveland. Transportation is provided to the college campus. 

  • Families are responsible for transportation to Rocket Academy and to each student’s YA placement location. Rocket Academy provides transportation to Lakeshore College for students who need to attend classes there. 

  • Students should plan to enter Rocket Academy with sufficient high school credits to be “on track” for graduation and to be in good standing regarding credits for their Junior year. The Rocket Academy Governance Council has approved certain dual credit courses to count towards required English, math, PE, science, and social studies credits. Rocket Academy provides a rigorous program where workforce readiness skills and core content are integrated into the study of advanced manufacturing. 

  • Pathways align education and training with the needs of the local job market, provide a range of postsecondary options, result in a high school diploma with at least one industry-recognized credential, and help students enter or advance within an occupation.   • The short answer is, yes. Rocket Academy will make every effort to foster your love of musical performance and will attempt to accommodate enrollment into these programs at Cedar Grove-Belgium High School. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to the band and choir classes. There is a trade off. When you miss Rocket Academy courses for band or choir, you will miss out on valuable lab and/or Youth Apprenticeship time. This may also affect transportation to and from Lakeshore College, which will need to be evaluated on an individual basis. 

  • Rocket Academy is located in Belgium, WI. The charter school is authorized by Cedar Grove-Belgium School District and is an open enrollment school. Rocket Academy accepts students from any school district and currently enrolls students from many neighboring communities.

  • No. Rocket Academy is a tuition-free public charter school. Students are able to earn free college credit through Lakeshore College by enrolling in Rocket Academy.

  • Rocket Academy has many valuable partnerships including Lakeshore College.

  • Rocket Academy students earn college credit while enrolled at Rocket Academy. Some Rocket Academy students complete their senior year with a high school diploma, industry credentials/certifications, and a technical degree from Lakeshore College. Regardless of the number of credits earned while attending Rocket Academy, all students have an opportunity to continue their education at Lakeshore College or other postsecondary institutions. Students also have the opportunity to “stack” their college credits into a four-year degree from a traditional university or college. 

  • Rocket Academy has a full time Director who helps design programming and serves as the “principal” of Rocket Academy. There is also a Rocket Academy Governance Board, made up of volunteers who have expertise in manufacturing specialties and education. 

  • HVAC, Industry 4.0, Precision Machining, and Welding. These pathways lead to careers that are in high-demand in the region.

  • Rocket Academy is funded through general state aid, local property taxes, and both federal and state grants. If a student enrolls at Rocket Academy from another community, a portion of their state aid is transferred to Rocket Academy from their home school.   Rocket Academy is also supported by private donors and donations from area businesses.
