Youth Apprenticeship

All students enrolled in the Rocket Academy will also have the opportunity to engage in a Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Youth Apprenticeship with a local manufacturing employer.

What are Youth Apprenticeships?

Youth Apprenticeships (YA) are 1 or 2-year programs that provide juniors and seniors in high school the chance to explore a career area of interest. Students spend part of their school day earning credit and wages while they gain valuable industry experience under the guidance of a local business mentor.

Youth apprenticeship is a form of work-based learning that applies the academic lessons students learn at school to meaningful work with innovative employers. Students spend part of the week at their high school, and part of the week with their employer, learning alongside professionals. Students receive credit for their apprenticeship, so they graduate on time with their peers.

Along with personal growth, you can expect your apprentice to learn about the field in which they are working. One of the many differences with a typical high school job is that apprentices are learning industry-supported competencies on the job and are on a path to earn (in most cases) an industry-valued credential.
